With strong citrus, grapefruit, melon, lime, gooseberry, passion fruit and lychee, Citra hops will develop peachy and tropical notes following dry hopping. For American Style Pale ale, IPA and Double IPA styles, Citra produces flavorful ales, especially during late flavor, aroma and/or dry hopping additions.
Typical A.A.%: 11 – 13%
Oil Content: 2.2 - 2.8%
Possible Substitutions: Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe
Application Tip:
For Belgian IPA’s, Citra hops blend well with Amarillo as a flavor and aroma hop, especially in versions of the style fermented with the 3711 French Saison yeast.
For American Pale ale, Citra provides complementary flavors to Centennial and Cascade hops, especially in flavoring and aroma additions at 30, 15 and flame out.
The varietal blends well with Nelson Sauvin and Australian Galaxy in American blonde ales.
For IPA's, Citra blends extraordinarily well with Mosaic. Citra's pungent qualities provide counterpoint to the blueberry fruitiness of Mosaic while both hops tropical notes mesh pleasantly, especially in the Belgo-American versions of the style fermented with the Belgian Ardennes yeast at 68F.
Possible Substitutions: Simcoe, NZ Nelson Sauvin
